Jay Jay O'Brien, Author of
High Hopes for Healing: Stigma-Free Education on Thriving Through Cancer With Cannabis
I was told I had about a year to live.
Stage 4 lung cancer.
Inoperable. Incurable. Terminal.
Instead of preparing to die, I chose to live differently.
I turned toward the plants, toward my own inner knowing, and toward the quiet intelligence of the body that modern systems so often overlook.
Through that journey I discovered the profound healing potential of Cannabis and other plant medicines, powerful allies that help the body remember how to restore balance.
Today, I’m a proud Stage 4 cancer Sur’thriver, and that lived experience is the foundation of everything I do.
My name is Jay Jay O’Brien, and I now spend my time helping others navigate their own healing journeys.
I work with patients and caregivers who are searching for clear, compassionate guidance on how to use Cannabis for cancer and symptom management, and how to approach healing in a way that honours the mind, body, and spirit together.
Education has become my path of service. As the Executive Director of EduCanNation Cannabis Education Inc., I help lead a patient-focused organization dedicated to making Cannabis education accessible, stigma-free, and grounded in real lived experience.
I’m also a founding member of W.E.C.A.N. — the Women’s Empowered Cannabis Advocates Network, where we work to elevate women’s voices in Cannabis advocacy and education.
Along the way I’ve gathered a few credentials that support this work — I’m a Certified Cannabis Health Coach, Educator, and Chartered Herbalist — but the most meaningful qualification I carry is having walked this road myself.
If you’re navigating cancer, supporting someone who is, or simply curious about the role Cannabis can play in holistic healing, you’re welcome to reach out.

With a new approach and connection to the plant, Jay Jay was able to heal 2 lung tumours, 11 brain tumours, and the associated bone and lymph node metastasis, despite what her doctors said.
